The screw-in design allows these closures to be added after the fact to a range of knits and crochet-wear, even woven fabrics that have been prepared with stabilized stud buttonholes to accommodate the smooth threaded cylinders that make up the screw-in mechanism.  This innovative approach to fasteners for open-work fabrics, specifically knitted and crocheted, allows the maker / wearer to get more use and style out of existing garments and accessories as well as to think creatively about new designs that take advantage of these fasteners' unique potential.
