Even Our Patterns are Local (and some are Free!)

Here is the story behind our patterns…and why we think you will love them as much as  we do.

Well! When we started on this journey to launch our own woolen mill and make yarn from local PEI fiber, we were VERY nervous about the fact that neither of us are pattern designers. Also, we don’t have the time to learn yet another new skill with everything else we were doing.

We knew of one pattern designer on the Island and we weren’t sure she would want to work with us. Why would she?  Her business and brand was already quite established. HOWEVER, necessity being the mother of courage we worked some up and asked the amazing Simone of Sand and Sky Creations if she would collaborate with us. She said YES!

Simone is an amazing hand spinner, weaver, a lightening fast knitter and designs gorgeous knitted creations. What we especially love about her designs is that, like our colorways, they are all inspired by the life and the people of Prince Edward Island. Her beautiful color work and stitch details evoke thoughts of nature, serenity and a general sense of wool-being and warmth. We are THRILLED to be working with Simone.

She has even allowed us to post a couple of FREE patterns for our clients to enjoy, like these cozy socks and this adorable hat. At this point in our pattern exploration, we felt truly blessed!

As luck would have it, one day another lovely woman walked through our doors offering to create patterns for our yarn! We could not believe our luck! Cheryl Wartman of CAW Creations was so enthusiastic about our Island-based product that she went straight to work and created SIX additional patterns for us. These patterns are currently being test knit and include a couple of beautiful shawls, some adorable baby knits and a couple of other treats, including a frilly free scarf pattern we can’t WAIT to share with you. We will be releasing Cheryl’s patterns over the coming months.

Now we were really over the moon! Not only are patterns so important for our yarn brand, but we are truly floored by the support we are receiving from our local fiber community. Delving into this new industry (we both come from a corporate business background) has been humbling, inspiring and so fulfilling. We are so honored to have you following along as we work through all the kinks of getting this little local brand going. We hope you enjoy working with our pattern collection as much as we have, and we can guarantee you they are all sourced straight from the heart. <3
